The ‘Friends’ Apartments Reimagined for Today

Monica and Joey’s New York City apartments would look entirely different today had this classic sitcom been set during today’s time period.

Modsy, a virtual interior design startup, created replica apartments of iconic Friends characters for today by recreating them based on what would likely appear today.

“Modsy decided to recreate the Friends apartment because so many viewers identify with its atmosphere, much like in their own homes,” states Alessandra Wood from Modsy.

“Every Friends fan can relate to having memories of those seats and tables; it feels almost as if we lived there too!”

Let’s imagine Monica and Chandler had decided to raise their twins in their Greenwich Village apartment instead of moving out west in 2019. What would their place have looked like in 2019?

Though Alessandra recalls how the iconic purple walls represented home for her and her partner, Alessandra states they would likely have been removed as part of any modern renovation plan.

“One of the most noticeable changes we made to the apartment was removing its purple walls.

“Due to 2019’s neutral palette trends, we decided to reduce Monica’s purple wall as it simply wouldn’t make sense today.

However, knowing Monica to be sentimental, we knew it would be impossible to remove all the purple from the door’s original shade and paid our respects by creating an accent wall of deep purple hue.”

Kitchens would likely also undergo dramatic makeovers, as the numerous trinkets and cupboard curtains would be removed in favor of more contemporary and tech-forward aesthetics.

“Chef Monica stays informed on all the latest kitchen trends and technologies.”

“To give our space an adult upgrade worthy of entertaining, Alessandra decided to switch out the signature blue cabinets with darker tones for an entertaining space suitable for today,” according to her statement.
