Retreat to the Countryside in This Converted Dairy in Red Hill

Now that Victoria has eased restrictions, many confined Melburnians are searching for a relaxing escape into nature – and this chic converted dairy could provide exactly that opportunity.

Red Hill, just an hour’s drive from Melbourne, offers The Log Box short-term rental – an idyllic studio which overlooks open fields.

Chloe Burgess and her husband purchased the property they currently occupy, with plans in mind to convert its old dairy barn into a guesthouse.

“[There was evidence of] dairy use by its scent, the remnants of livestock equipment left behind and dust on the floor,” noted Chloe.

While it may no longer be apparent where cows once roamed, Chloe has managed to retain some of their rustic charm in this property with exposed beam ceilings, an antique sliding barn door, and wood-fired living area fireplaces.

“Our ultimate aim was to preserve the authentic feel of this milking shed. We restored and reinforced its exterior cladding of aged timber without compromising its integrity, as much as I longed to keep its rusted roof intact,” according to Chloe.
