Crafting an Indoor Garden Oasis from the Ground Up: A Guide

Now is the perfect time to introduce more green into your life with an indoor garden! Bring the great outdoors right inside with you with this creative option.

Duncan Hilder of The Plant Runner offers expert insight on which plants thrive indoors.

From beginner plants to some of the trendiest floral choices of 2020, here’s what you should purchase in order to kick-start your indoor garden.

Beginner Plants No matter your level of gardening expertise, having low maintenance indoor plants is always helpful in keeping an indoor oasis alive – they will keep things moving even when you don’t feel like tending to it yourself!

Search for hardy varieties that will thrive year-round without needing constant care, watering or pruning.

Here are Duncan’s picks for low maintenance plants suitable for beginning gardeners:

Monstera (Mona) will add tropical island vibes to any room it graces. Its large leaves boast lushly-green coloration with plenty of character.

“Monstera leaves will evolve with age,” Duncan states. “[They will transition] from smaller, fenestration-free leaves to the classic classic foliage we all adore.”

As their name implies, monstera plants grow into massively large specimens that require plenty of room for cultivation. But don’t despair if space is an issue – still enjoy monsteras by placing just a couple of leaves into a vase and watching them flourish; alternatively see our mini monstera note below.

Peace Lily for Indoor Air Purification
The peace lily is well known as an air purifier and hardy indoor plant. Plus, its lush leaves eventually bloom into a stunning white flower about twice per year! But did you know? Technically it is not actually considered a flower; rather its structure resembles more closely that of modified leaves than flowers!
