Reviewing the Dominant Design Trends of 2022 Thus Far

2022 has barely begun and already looks set to be an exciting year in terms of interior style and design trends. Thanks to pandemic and lockdown restrictions, 2022 promises to be an explosive year of interior decor and design trends.

Are You Wondering What the Trend is Right Now? Below are the top trends currently dominating interior design that can be accomplished on any budget.

White has long been the backdrop of our homes, but one thing is for certain in 2022: color is in.

Recent discussions between interior designer Emma Blomfield and clients have centered around color, texture and adding more vibrant aspects into their spaces.

Think strong natural colors with earthy tones. Darker palettes featuring sensual hues are also making waves.

Not to be forgotten is wallpaper’s comeback; says Julie Godfrey from MontClaire Interiors.

“Wallpaper was once an essential feature in every room,” Julie reminisces. It adds something different and exciting to any interior space.

“What we envision here are murals with various textures – including soft murals, bolder ones, grasscloth patterns and anything that adds some personality.

Bespoke bathrooms: Individuality celebrated This year, bathrooms are all about personal expression.

“No longer are bathrooms whitewashed,” Emma declares. “Nowadays, they feature feature walls and bold tiles as well as decorative mirrors to add visual interest beyond just being shaving cabinets.”

Arch mirrors, stone and timber benchtops, concrete basins and brushed brass faucets and sinks are among the many new features making waves in interior design.

Summer 2018 saw Australia experience some of its hottest days and nights ever seen before, making air conditioning an essential feature.

Heating and cooling ducts are ideal for new home builds, offering both comfort and style without compromising functionality. Emma notes that many homeowners opt for grilles and vents with decorative grilles or ornate vent covers as part of their aesthetic design, keeping with current trends.

An investment in quality will guarantee relaxing evenings. In apartments, compact wall-mounted split air con systems will work effectively.

Fujitsu provides energy-efficient air conditioning units that are compact and won’t become an eyesore. Plus, their energy saving mode means you won’t waste energy cooling rooms that aren’t in use.

Individual kitchens
Kitchens remain at the heart of most homes. But like other spaces in a home, this room has begun to shed its generic aesthetic in favor of customizing it for each family, says interior designer and stylist Simone Haag.

“Today’s trend is towards creating a much cozier synthesis with our home so that rooms flow easily from one space to the next,” Simone notes.
